Maxon plans new factory in Mexico

Jan. 13, 2021
Upon completion, Maxon will have over 800,000 total square feet of liftgate manufacturing space spread across two plants

Maxon Lift Corp.  has reached an agreement with Nexxus Industrial Parks to acquire 36 acres of land in their ADN 2 park North of Monterrey, Mexico.  In addition to the land acquisition, Maxon will work with Nexxus on a build-to-suit factory building, with work beginning immediately, the company reports.

The first phase of the project will add 400,000+ square feet of manufacturing space, with up to 600,000 square feet of building space in future phases.  This additional capacity will give Maxon the capability to build over 100% of the liftgates needed in the North American market, with more capacity available in future phases to fill industry demand for the next 20-30 years.

“We have already been heavily investing in state-of-the-art manufacturing technology in our current plant,” says Maxine Lugash Stratton, a member of the office of the president. “This new plant will take that commitment to the next level.   We will be installing the latest in automation and manufacturing technology to make this plant a world class operation.”

Ground breaking will begin immediately with completion of the building around the end of 2021.  Maxon expects to be in full operation in early 2022.  Maxon will continue to operate its existing plant as before. Upon completion, Maxon will have over 800,000 total square feet of liftgate manufacturing space spread across the two plants.

“This is very exciting for our customers,” says Brent Stratton, also a member of the office of the president. “The location of this plant will lower transit times to our customers by up to a week.  Add in the fact that we are more than doubling capacity with this plant, we expect lead times to become a thing of the past in the liftgate industry.”
