Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Down 10% in June

Medium and heavy truck sales were down 10% in June over the same period a year ago and up 1% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 58,840 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down from June 2015 (65,497) and up from May 2016 (58,222).

Compared with June 2015, Class 8 trucks were down 28% (18,354, compared to 25,369). Class 7 sales were 5,327, up 2% from 5,213.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 343,255 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, down 1% from 346,700 in 2015. Class 8 sales have been 104,158, a 15% decrease from the same period last year (123,188). Class 7 sales have been up 8% (28,424, compared to 26,215).

Total sales of all classes have been up 8%, from 4,861,199 to 5,268,012.

Every class has been up, except for Class 8. The biggest increase has been in Class 6 (20%).
