Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 6% in February

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 6% in February over the same period a year ago and up 10% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 52,834 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from February 2015 (49,658) and January 2016 (47,964).

Compared with February 2015, Class 8 trucks were down 11% (15,876, compared to 17,811). Class 7 sales were 4,201, up 13% from 3,718.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 100,798 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 4% from 97,338 in 2014. Class 8 sales have been 31,825, a 10% decrease from the same period last year (35,184). Class 7 sales have been up 5% (8,535, compared to 8,095).

Total sales of all classes have been up 9%, from 1,387,693 to 1,514,137.

Every class has been up, except for Class 8. The biggest increase has been in Class 5 (37%).
