A new book, Lean Manufacturing for the Small Shop, is available from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). The book explains how small- to medium-size companies can integrate lean manufacturing, the approach that contributed to the success of Ford Motor Co, General Electric, and Toyota.

Written by Gary Conner, this book provides owners, entrepreneurs, production managers, and manufacturing engineers clear descriptions of lean manufacturing techniques, examples of how they have been used, and it explains how they can be implemented step-by-step. Included is a CD-ROM with training tools — spreadsheets and slides in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word formats — to help managers facilitate teams on the shop floor and instructors adapt material to course curriculums.

This 250-page hardcover book and CD-ROM is $65 ($60 for SME members). To order, phone 800-733-4763 and ask for Item Number PI-2874.
