Jacobs Vehicle Systems has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of a potential safety hazard in the electronic controller for its Jacobs Driveline Brake.

The company has determined that a safety defect exists in certain installations of Jacobs Driveline Brakes using the solid-state controller. A possible failure mode can cause a short from the positive terminal of the battery to the negative terminal of the battery within the controller. This may cause the controller to ignite without warning, causing damage to the controller as well as possible vehicle and personal injury.

Jacobs is notifying all customers to contact servicing dealers for corrective action. The dealer will install an inline fuse between the battery and solid-state controller. More information can be obtained from www.jakebrake.com.
