Eaton earnings up 33% on record revenue

Eaton Corporation announced net income per share of $1.37 for the second quarter of 2005, thanks in part to a 37% increase in truck business.

Eaton Corporation announced net income per share of $1.37 for the second quarter of 2005, an increase of 33% over the second quarter of 2004.

Sales in the quarter were a record $2.83 billion, 18% above the same period in 2004.

Among the diversified manufacturer’s markets, the fluid power segment had second quarter sales of $842 million, 6% above the second quarter of 2004. Fluid Power markets grew 3 percent compared to the same period in 2004, with global fluid power industry shipments up an estimated 5%, commercial aerospace markets up 7%, defense aerospace markets flat, and European automotive production down 1 percent.

The truck segment posted sales of $596 million in the second quarter, up 37% compared to 2004, and recorded operating profits of $120 million, an increase of 54% from the second quarter of 2004. NAFTA heavy-duty production was up 39% compared to 2004, NAFTA medium-duty production was up 11%, European truck production was up 10%, and Brazilian vehicle production was up 13%.
