The popularity of WasteExpo continues to climb steadily while the annual show serves a growing $40-billion waste and recycling market and its industry executives.
More than 11,500 people attended WasteExpo 2001 in Chicago's McCormick Place April 2-6. Rita Ugianskis, group show director with Intertec Exhibitions, Stamford, Connecticut, noted that this year's attendance had increased over the previous year's general attendance in Atlanta.
“We saw the actual floor space increase to 242,000 net square feet from 220,000 net square feet. Some of that was driven by the addition of a new truck or body style to a company's booth.
“Over the course of the two immediate past shows, we have experienced a 13% increase in attendance,” Ugianskis says. “And with the continued dynamic changes in the waste and recycling industry that we are seeing today, I believe that the show's predominance as the only truly international show for the industry will continue to strengthen its market position.”
Ugianskis noted the significant role that trailer and body builders are playing in the show's success. “Trailer manufacturers who cater to the waste haulers are using this show as their primary trade show venue to pursue that focused marketing effort. Several Canadian trailer and body manufacturers, such as MANAC-FABREX, are using WasteExpo as a launching site for their entry into supplying the American waste hauling industry.
“Other types of body upfitters also have used WasteExpo as a venue for launching new products aimed at the waste hauling industries. Not only do you see the packer manufacturers, but there has been a steady increase in the hooklift, roll-off, and what I would call the ancillary bodies. For example, this year the show gained in service body and lube truck manufacturers.”
