SDC is increasing its production output levels to more than 200 trailers weekly in response to a high level of market demand for the company’s range of heavy-duty trailers for the road transport and logistics industry.

Its latest trailer order was secured with UK-based logistics provider Canute for the delivery of 50 new curtainsider trailers, 11 step frame double deck curtainsiders, six brick flats and two new urban trailers.

The Canute Group is one of the fastest-growing global supply chain logistics service providers in the UK, employing over 1300 personnel across twelve regional distribution and warehousing facilities. The privately owned company has a diverse customer base within the retail, construction, engineering and healthcare sectors. The new fleet of trailers will add to the Canute Group’s range of step-frame double deck curtainsiders, box vans, brick flats and skeletal trailers already received from SDC in 2014.

Said Wayne Marshall from the Canute Group, “I am pleased to receive our latest batch of new trailers from SDC. We have worked hard over the years to build a strong customer base globally, and it is important that we can deliver the goods irrespective of market, product or geography. SDC Trailers has enabled us to match the growth of our business and to reflect the diverse requirements of our customers. High quality reliable equipment is vital if we are to match the sophistication and innovation of the solutions we are developing within the logistics marketplace.”

Already the UK’s largest trailer manufacturer, SDC has further increased its production output by 30% in this fiscal year, in response to a steady increase in customer orders. With over 500,000 square feet of production space, SDC Trailers four manufacturing plants are amongst the most modern and efficient facilities in Europe. The trailer manufacturer works alongside sister company MDF Engineering to retain complete control over the design and manufacturing process, while ensuring quality standards and lead times are maintained.

SDC anticipates trailer demand will continue to surge in 2015, according to Sales Director Paul Bratton: “We are seeing positive signs in the UK market as more operators are investing in new trailers rather than second-hand units. It is great to see long-standing customers like Canute coming back to SDC when they are ready to make a new purchase. As the demand increases we recognise that service levels and lead times as well as product quality will play an important role in the decision making process.

“With the appointment of over 200 new employees and an increase in production facilities, SDC is well placed to meet the growing market demand without compromising on quality or customer service. We have also increased our distribution network of truck and trailer parts with the addition of new branches, delivery vehicles and a dedicated export department, ensuring customer downtime is kept to a minimum.”
