Nimble Trailers plans new plant

Jan. 3, 2016

Nimble Trailers will open a new plant to build 33-ft trailers, according to Todd Wessels, plant, manufacturing, logistics, and costing president.

The facility, projected to cost more than $15 million, will be built in Longview, Washington.  Longview is off Interstate 5 between Seattle and Portland.  The facility will produce the company’s new JAX Series 33 foot trailer.   Employment is expected to be 188 initially, with the potential of an additional 439 positions over the next three years.

The new JAX Series trailer has procured an exclusive licensing agreement for the "QwikSlide" undercarriage specifically designed for the 33 foot trailer. This new technology allows the driver to slide the suspension and undercarriage rearward, exposing a fifth wheel and allowing the driver to easily attach another trailer. The Qwikslide sliding converter dolly suspension technology eliminates the need for an additional manual converter dolly, the company says.

"Once the new plant is fully operational, we will be able to significantly expand our dry van manufacturing capabilities to include 48- and 53-ft trailers while increasing employment opportunities in the region," Wessels says.
