NATM has developed two documents to assist members: “Tandem Towing Fact Sheet” and “A Guide to NHTSA Early Warning Reporting and Safety Recalls.”

NATM is recommending that trailer manufacturers print or download and forward the “Tandem Towing Fact Sheet” to drivers and dealers. In December 2015, Congress enacted the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, which includes a provision that enables light- and medium-duty trailer manufacturers to deliver their trailers to dealers in combinations of two, subject to existing size and weight limits and additional restrictions. This fact sheet provides an overview of the new law and its impact on NATM members.

The second document is a comprehensive guide to Early Warning Reporting (EWR) and Recall requirements. Both trailer manufacturers and component manufacturers have reporting requirements, regardless of the number of trailers or units manufactured. The guide was launched last week at the NATM Convention and includes an executive summary, along with more thorough sections on EWR and Recall requirements. It also includes examples, sample reports, templates, and relevant statutes and regulations.

Both of these documents may be downloaded from the NATM “Members Only” section at: Member Login Link. If you do not have login credentials, please contact [email protected].
