Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 4% in August

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 4% in August over the same period a year ago and down 3% from the previous month.

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 4% in August over the same period a year ago and down3% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 49,962 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from August 2012 (48,024) and downfrom July 2013 (51,279).

Compared with August 2012, Class 8 trucks were down 7% (15,288, compared to 16,497). Class 7 sales were 4,191, up 6% from 3,939.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 392,535 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 12% from 374,082 in 2012. Class 8 sales have been 116,468, a 12% decrease from the same period last year (132,164). Class 7 sales have been down 3% (31,055, compared to 32,015).

Total sales of all classes have been up 12%, from 4,965,545 to 5,558,234.

Every class has been up, except for Class 7 and 8. The biggest increase has been in Class 6 (20%).
