New commercial trailer registrations (24 feet and over) for the first six months of the 2008 calendar year were down 33.7% from the comparable period a year ago, according to Polk’s Commercial Vehicle Market Intelligence Report

New commercial trailer registrations (24 feet and over) for the first six months of the 2008 calendar year were down 33.7% from the comparable period a year ago, according to Polk’s Commercial Vehicle Market Intelligence Report.

The decline in trailer registrations mirrors the 36.3% decline in new GVW 8 vehicles.

The top five trailer body types account for 77.4% of total new trailer registrations,
compared to 82.1% during the first six months of 2007.

Vans are down 40%, flatbeds 45.5%, dumps 36.6% and tag-a-longs. The only type to experience a gain was grain trailers, up 18.4%.
