Medium and heavy truck sales were down 2% in January over the same period a year ago and down 33% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.
Dealers sold 47,189 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down from January 2016 (47,964) and December 2016 (70,771).
Compared with January 2016, Class 8 trucks were down 31% (10,944, compared to 15,949). Class 7 sales were 3,939, down 9% from 4,334.
The biggest gain came in Class 3 (28%, from 16,755 to 21,463).
