Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 9% in April

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 9% in April over the same period a year ago and up 4% from the previous month.

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 9% in April over the same period a year ago and up 4% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 56,387 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from April 2013 (51,709) and from March 2014 (54,480).

Compared with April 2013, Class 8 trucks were up 14% (17,776, compared to 15,646). Class 7 sales were 4,127, down 10% from 4,565.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 196,750 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 7% from 184,239 in 2012. Class 8 sales have been 62,323, a 14% increase from the same period last year (54,451). Class 7 sales have been up 1% (15,298, compared to 15,097).

Total sales of all classes have been up 9%, from 2,564,492 to 2,789,040.

Every class has been up, except for Class 3. The biggest increase has been in Class 4 (27%).
