Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 9% for 2015

Medium and heavy truck sales were down 1% in December over the same period a year ago and up 9% for 2015, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Medium and heavy truck sales were down 1% in December over the same period a year ago and up 9% for 2015, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 71,482 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down from December 2014 (72,199) but up 24% from November 2015 (57,684). For the year, sales were 732,092, up from 670,589 in 2014.

Compared with December 2014, Class 8 trucks were down 11% (20,773, compared to 23,379). Class 7 sales were 5,188, down 2% from 5,297.

For the year, Class 8 sales were 248,804, a 13% increase from last year (220,405). Class 7 sales were up 9% (58,888, compared to 54,178).

Total sales of all classes were up 13%, from 9,154,354 to 10,310,482.

Every class was up for the year. The biggest increase was in Class 1 (15%, from 6,209,119 to 7,161,468), followed by Class 8, Class 7, and Class 5 (8%, from 67,085 to 72,286).
