Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 12% in January

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 12% in January over the same period a year ago and down 34% from the previous month.

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 12% in January over the same period a year ago and down 34% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 47,680 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from January 2014 (42,429) and down from December 2014 (72,199).

Compared with January 2014, Class 8 trucks were up 23% (17,373, compared to 14, 146). Class 7 sales were 4,377, up 13% from 3,868.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 47,680 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 12% from 42,429 in 2014.

Total sales of all classes have been up 19%, from 557,196 to 662,183.

Every class has been up. The biggest increase has been in Class 4 (36%).
