Is it a truck? A body? A chassis? A trailer? How about all of the above? Whatever it is, the Toyota e-Palette Concept Vehicle was a surprise star at CES.

Is it a truck? A body? A chassis? A trailer? How about all of the above? Whatever it is, the Toyota Motor Corp. e-Palette Concept Vehicle was a surprise star at last week’s CES, a show more typically focused on the latest in electronic gadgetry and computer tech.

Tech publication Engadget, for instance, named the e-Palette Best of the Best at CES 2018 (as well as winner of the Best Transportation Technology and Best Innovation (Disruptive Tech) honors).

The concept vehicle is at the heart of the transportation OEM's shift away from its hardware product focus to become “a smart mobility" company, with a focus on data to provide customers with better solutions.

For Toyota, the e-Palette is, essentially, whatever the customer wants it to be. The eight-wheeled box is battery electric and autonomous, but otherwise can be configured to be almost anything that will fit the mobile floorplan (with lengths between four and seven meters).
