Sept. 29, 2014
Total reported volumes of used Class 8 trucks fell 10% month-over-month and 6% year-over-year in August.

Total reported volumes of used Class 8 trucks fell 10% month-over-month and 6% year-over-year in August, according to the latest release of “State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks,” published by ACT Research.

“Year-to-date, sales remain down 5%,” said Steve Tam, Vice President-Commercial Vehicle Sector with ACT.

Tam said that the retail and wholesale markets both contracted month-over-month, but auctions gained 5% m/m.

“The average selling price of total reported Class 8 trucks remained at a high level, but was flat relative to July,” Tam said. “There remains the real possibility of an upside surprise to our expectation of price appreciation up to 10% in 2014.”
