Freightliner Trucks announced that Western Express, Inc., has ordered 900 Freightliner Cascadia tractors equipped with 2010 Detroit Diesel Corporation DD15 engines featuring BlueTec emissions technology.

Western Express is headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., and provides dry van, flatbed, dedicated and brokerage truckload transportation services to a diverse customer base that includes leading Fortune 500 companies.

A longtime Freightliner Trucks and Detroit Diesel customer, Western Express selected the Cascadia for its fuel efficiency, reliability and driver comfort. The addition of the DD15 engine to the Cascadia further enhances the truck’s power and performance.

“I am excited about this order and what it means to our customers and associates,” said Wayne Wise, chief executive officer and president for Western Express. “This continues our commitment to going green, reducing our carbon footprint, and the EPA SmartWay program. We delayed our purchase of new tractors in anticipation of this new technology.”

The order entails a three-year agreement covering nearly 2,800 trucks and will make Western Express predominantly an all-Freightliner vehicle fleet, Wise added.
