The overall UK bus and coach market fell 28.7% to 450 units in November, but rose 36.6% during the January to November period, according to the the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The purpose-built bus and coach market dipped for the second successive month, down 30.2%, but rose 11.7% during the first 11 months of 2012.

Converted bus registrations fell 27.3% in November, but increased by 69.5% over the year-to-date.

“The overall bus and coach market fell 28.7% in November, but the significant growth posted so far in 2012 puts the sector on a firm footing as we head into 2013,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive. “Wider economic challenges will continue to impact industry next year, but we expect market demand to be boosted as the fourth round of the Green Bus Fund comes into effect from May 2013, encouraging greater uptake of innovative, low carbon technologies.”
