GeoSpatial Technologies Inc of Santa Ana CA is the latest company to enter the ground-based vehicle tracking systems market - and it is using school buses to test its technology.

The company is launching a pilot test of its GlobalTrax system for vehicle tracking to determine its applicability in a transportation environment with Laidlaw Education Services, the Martin County School system in Florida, and Cingular (formerly BellSouth and Southwestern Bell).

GlobalTrax combines Global Positioning System, Geographic Information System, and wireless and Internet technologies to enable a vehicle to be tracked in real time from any computer or hand-held wireless device via the Internet.

The pilot test is expected to continue through the end of the current school year.
