The Technical Knowledge Opportunities program from the Service Technicians Society (STS) provides lifelong learning for professional technicians.

According to STS research, 80% of technicians said the amount of training they received in 2001 was not enough to keep pace with changes in the profession. The STS training program is designed to help close this gap. This program will address present and future needs for knowledge on shop issues and emerging technologies. STS, through its affiliation with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), is positioned to bring new and emerging technologies to the service community.

The program will also focus on quality by using SAE standards as core criteria for program design and delivery. Technicians will evaluate all course materials to be sure it meets criteria and delivers what technicians want. STS is soliciting training partners and plans to offer the first Technical Knowledge Opportunity courses in autumn 2002.
