Truckload giant Schneider National will participate in the American Trucking Assns.' (ATA) program to combat terrorism, Highway Watch. This has the potential to bring Schneider's 21,900 employees into the Highway Watch network.

Highway Watch is administered by ATA in partnership with the Dept. of Homeland Security fueled by a $40.3 million budget from March 2004 through 2005. The program trains transportation workers to report suspicious activity and prevent terrorists from using large vehicles as weapons.

"Highway Watch provides all of our associates, especially our team of 15,500 drivers, with the tools and information necessary to stay mindful of suspicious activity and, most importantly, take proactive steps to keep our industry and the nation's critical infrastructure safe and secure," said Don Osterberg, Schneider's vp of safety and training.
