Earl E. Congdon, Executive Chairman of the Board of Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc., announced ODFL would purchase selected assets of Bob's Pickup & Delivery headquartered in Sidney, Mont. Bob's Pickup & Delivery produces approximately $10 million dollars in sales annually through its network of thirteen service centers in Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Glendive, Great Falls, Havre, Helena, Kalispell, Lewistown, Miles City, Missoula, Sidney Mont. and Bismarck, N.D.

Effective Friday, Old Dominion will add to its current route structure the twelve Bob's terminal operations in the state of Montana and combine the Bismarck, N.D. facility, thus increasing the ODFL network to 204 service centers. Through the acquisition, Old Dominion Freight Line will now provide direct coverage to every state in the continental United States.

Mr. Congdon said, "Bob's is a very well-run company with a strong franchise in Montana and the Bismarck, N.D., market, and they have built an excellent reputation for providing quality transportation service. The move is consistent with our growth and service strategy, and is also consistent in keeping with our focus of building a world-class multi-regional and national network.

"Old Dominion will now provide direct coverage to 48 states with 100 percent full state coverage to 39 states. We currently offer high quality regional and inter-regional service within and between the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Central States, Gulf States and Western areas of the United States. This transaction enhances our current nationwide service offering and provides our customers with 100 percent full state coverage to Montana. Old Dominion customers will receive improvements to an already comprehensive OD-Domestic product offering with the additional direct service offering."

Bob' Pickup & Delivery was operated by Randy, Raymond and their father, Robert (Bob) Bell. The Bell family stated, "Since 1980, our family has been involved in regional LTL Transportation and we were committed to providing customers with the most reliable overnight and second day transportation service in Montana and North Dakota. We have thoroughly enjoyed our years in the freight industry. This decision was not an easy one for us to make, but believe this transaction with Old Dominion Freight Line presents tremendous opportunity for our customers and employees. We were impressed with the "family culture" at Old Dominion, and together we share many similarities of family run transportation companies."
