MGM Brakes (Charlotte, NC) and Knaack Mfg. Co. (Crystal Lake, IL) are the winners of the 2006 New Product Innovation Award. Voting took place during The Work Truck Show 2006 March 1-3 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA. The Work Truck Show was held in conjunction with the 42nd Annual National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) Convention Feb. 28-March 3.

Introduced in 2004, the New Product Innovation Award recognizes the best new product or product innovation among exhibiting companies participating in the New Product Spotlight and the New Product Media Guide programs. Work Truck Show attendees were invited to cast a vote, with the exhibitor receiving the highest number of votes winning the award. This year, the result was a tie.

MGM Brakes won for its e-STROKE electronic brake monitoring system that offers a patented braking alternative. It safely, quickly and accurately checks a brake stroke status electronically. Wheel-specific light-emitting diodes (LED) pinpoint over-stroked or non-functioning brake actuators, as well as dragging brakes.

"It is our firm belief that e-STROKE provides increased safety for drivers, passengers and the public; and we appreciate the recognition this award gives our most recent innovation. We look forward to participating in next year's Work Truck Show in Indianapolis," said Bryan Schrandt, vice president of sales and marketing worldwide for MGM Brakes.

MGM Brakes manufactures and distributes spring parking brakes and actuators for air-braked vehicles. A division of Indian Head Industries, Inc., MGM Brakes is a worldwide supplier to the commercial vehicle industry. Knaack Mfg. won the award for its new line of WEATHER GUARD steel truck boxes with improved features that enhance job site security and productivity. The company also won for its low-profile aluminum truck boxes designed for extra strength and durability to fit new pickup trucks that have higher bed rails.

"We are very excited about winning the New Product Innovation Award for two main reasons. First, the award was determined by our customer base, the attendees of The Work Truck Show - this is truly a special honor. Second, the award demonstrates our commitment to end-user-focused, new product innovation in our WEATHER GUARD line of truck and van equipment," said Chad Severson, Knaack's vice president of marketing and product development.
