Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 41% in February

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 41% in February over the same period a year ago and up 16% from last month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 33,017 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from February 2010 (23,397) and up from January 2011 (28,757).

Compared with February 2010, Class 8 trucks were up 31% (9,712, compared to 7,427). Class 7 sales were 3,293, up 19% from the 2,771 sold.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 61,774 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 30% from 47,377 in 2009. Class 8 sales have been 18,948, a 28% increase from the same period last year (14,814). Class 7 sales have been up 10% (6,417, compared to 5,849). Total sales of all classes have been up 32%, from 744,878 to 980,969.

Every class has been up, except for Class 4 (down 50%). The biggest increase has been in Class 5 (58%).
