Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 13% in June, 23% for Year

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 13% in June over the same period a year ago and up 23% for the year to date, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 49,142 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from June 2011 (43,676) and down 5% from May 2012 (51,839).

Compared with June 2011, Class 8 trucks were up 19% (17,484, compared to 14,647). Class 7 sales were 4,020, up 19% from the 3,450 sold.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 279,340 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 23% from 226,324 in 2010. Class 8 sales have been 99,246, a 38% increase from the same period last year (72,068). Class 7 sales have been up 17% (23,975, compared to 20,414).

Total sales of all classes have been up 12%, from 3,293,325 to 3,680,099.

Every class has been up, except for Class 4 (down 12%) and Class 6 (down 4%). The biggest increase has been in Class 5 (29%).
