Letter to the Editor: Family-run businesses versus “big guys”

Trailer/Body Builders Letter to the editor April 2014

Dear Editor,

I just finished reading your editorial (“The measure of a truck equipment distributor”) in the March 2014 issue of Trailer/Body Builders. As the fourth generation in a family truck equipment business, I couldn’t agree more with the remarks from those you interviewed. I am beginning to question if there will continue to be a place for a small family-run truck equipment distributorship amongst the fleet management companies and bailment pools. I am hopeful that family businesses can continue to stem the tide of consolidation sweeping across the industry by creating a niche not serviced by the “big guys.” As we celebrate our 115th year in business, I appreciate you casting some light on the issue and letting other family businesses in the industry know that there are still a few of us out there. Thanks for a great editorial.

Best Regards,
