GM said yesterday it would produce a new mid-sized light truck, the GMC Canyon, that will replace the GMC Sonoma, according to Automotive News. Production of the 2004 model-year pickup will start in the fourth quarter of 2003 at GM's Shreveport, LA plant, which also will produce the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado pickup. The Canyon will be sold in the U.S. and Canada and will share GM's GMT355 mid-sized light truck platform with the Colorado. GM did not disclose details about the pricing or product features of the vehicle. GM will end production of the GMC Sonoma in late 2004.
