Fontaine International has introduced a new composite air cylinder which the company says has several advantages over traditional metal air cylinders. The new resin matrix is self-lubricating reducing the friction on the wear surface to improve the sealing performance, extend seal life and virtually eliminate piston sticking, company officials said. In addition, the composite material will not corrode in hostile environments found with many applications. The new composite will included on pressed steel 6000 Series and cast 7000 Series No-Slack II fifth wheel locks and air actuated slide brackets.
