Employees are companies' most valuable assets, but they also can be their greatest expense. A seminar entitled "Reducing Costs Through Better Human Resource Management" will be held from 10 am-4 pm on Wednesday, February 24.

This workshop is designed to give truck equipment employees who perform human resource functions the necessary skills to understand employment laws, regulations, and hiring and firing practices. Recruiting and hiring the best employees, conducting performance reviews, avoiding litigation regarding terminations, conforming to laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family Medical Leave Act, avoiding discrimination and sexual harassment complaints, and keeping required records will be covered in the workshop.

Participants in the workshop will be given a workshop manual and a 190-page book "Personnel Management for the Small Business."

NTEA Human Resource Consultant, Michael Scarfo, will lead the workshop. Scarfo has gathered human resource experience from such organizations as Ford, Gelman Sciences, and Georgia-Pacific Gypsum. He consults with small businesses and major corporations in both union-free and unionized environments.
