New trailer hubs and a family of brake drums designed to reduce weight up to 15% was introduced by Consolidated Metco (ConMet), Portland OR.

The ConMet PreSet ductile iron trailer hubs were designed specifically for trailer applications where weight savings is not an issue but where low maintenance and extended life are required. With periodic inspections, service intervals can extend up to 50,000 miles, according to Larry Sanford, national sales manager.

The CastLite brake drum family is 13 pounds lighter than a standard 16.5 × 7 rear full-cast brake drum, according to Rob Edstrom, vice-president of sales and marketing. It uses the same gray iron that is industry standard; a computer-optimized shape reduces the weight. (www.conmet.com).
