The Godwin Group and its affiliated company Godwin Manufacturing have acquired the assets of Good Roads Inc. of Williamsport, Indiana—which was founded in 1878 and manufactures a line of snow plows and salt spreaders.

After negotiating for almost a year, R.D. Manning, primary owner of Good Roads, and Godwin VP Pat Godwin Jr. completed the sale in the off-season of this seasonal product line to minimize the impact on customers.

Godwin will be moving Good Roads in its entirety to the Godwin Manufacturing location in Dunn, NC, in the next few weeks. The Good Roads product will be incorporated into Godwin’s current manufacturing facilities and product mix. A transfer has been offered to Good Roads employees to relocate to one of the other Godwin Group facilities and is still under negotiation. The Good Roads name will continue to be used.

Godwin will be working with current Good Roads distributors to develop strategies to insure that the company can supply the market as well as move to the next level.

“The idea of manufacturing snow plows and salt spreaders has been on (our) minds for most of 20 years,” Godwin Jr. said. “This makes us more vertically integrated and gives us a more complete product line in the municipal market segment. When negotiations first began, this new venture seemed too good to be true, and now is coming to fruition and is mutually satisfying to both Good Roads and Godwin.”
