Fontaine Modification offers steering conversion for Freightliner MD trucks

Feb. 2, 2024
The dual-drive steering modification will apply to 2025 Freightliner M2 106 Plus and M2 108SD Plus trucks, allowing drivers to operate them on either side

Fontaine Modification is debuting a new Premium Sit-Down Dual Drive steering modification for 2025 Freightliner M2 106 Plus and M2 108SD Plus medium-duty conventional trucks.

The conversions add a right-hand seat position to the OEM’s cab so that a driver may operate vocational vehicles from either the right or left side. This design will be beneficial for applications that require the driver to operate curbside, such as refuse collection, street-sweeping, herbicide spraying, pavement marking, and grapple trucks.

“Customers have relied on our sit-down dual drive modifications to make their vocational vehicles more versatile and efficient for decades,” said Harrison Letchworth, Fontaine Modification vocational sales manager. “When Freightliner refreshed its M2 Series cab interior and electrical architecture, we reengineered and upgraded our existing dual-drive steering modification to make the right-hand driving position even more ergonomic to improve driver comfort and efficiency.”

Fontaine also added new dash panels, a right-hand digital-dash cluster, and wiring harnesses for the Freightliner trucks. The conversion, which is performed at Fontaine’s flagship modification center in Charlotte, North Carolina, includes relocating multiple electrical modules behind the dash and revising the steering column.

Fontaine plans to add a Premium Sit-Down Dual Drive conversion for 2025 Freightliner M2 112 and M2 114SD trucks later this year.
