Looking back to 1968 Trailer Body Builders

With commercial drivers now required to use Electronic Logging Devices, the ability to load and unload freight quickly is more important than ever – or is it?

Way back in 1968, Hercules Galion, highlighted in our June 1968 story “Hercules Galion Announces Container-Van System,” attempted to speed up the process with a hydraulic system called ContainerVan designed to lift containers off the back of a trailer and leave them standing on legs, allowing for faster loading and unloading.

Truckers also were looking for ways to extend the life of their dry van and tank trailers by making them more durable and corrosion resistant – just like today – while truckers and manufacturers were looking for ways to offset rising operational and engineering costs.

In other words, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

So jump in the Trailer/Body Builders Time Machine and travel with us back to June 1968 with a photo gallery gleaned straight from the well-worn pages of the only magazine published specifically for those who produce and sell commercial truck bodies, trailers and truck equipment.
