PPG Commercial Coatings and the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) have named ATC Trailers, Inc., of Nappanee, Indiana, as the recipient of the fourth annual Green Manufacturing Award.
The award recognizes the NATM member with the year’s best solution or innovation that positively affects the environment. Lucas Landis, ATC marketing director, accepted the prize on behalf of company CEO and founder Steve Brenneman.
“I was surprised and pleased,” said Brenneman upon being informed of the award. “We make a genuine effort to be environmentally aware. One of our core values is to enhance the communities we are part of, and resource sustainability and environmental protection are top priorities for achieving that. It is gratifying to be recognized for our efforts.”
ATC has been recognized as a 2013 Indiana Companies to Watch as a result of its fast growth in the field. The company won the Green Manufacturing Award for its improvements in the areas of waste diversion, energy efficiency and water and air quality. Specific advances include:
- Recycling or reusing all wood and metal scraps;
- Daily collection and recycling of paper and plastic items;
- A continuing commitment to a lean manufacturing protocol that has cut energy consumption by 50 percent in three years;
- Reducing water runoff;
- Enhancing interior ventilation systems.
In addition, ATC employs a full-time LEED-accredited professional on the premises.
ATC is also community-focused and selected Goshen Farmer’s Market in nearby Goshen, Indiana, as the beneficiary of the cash donation associated with the award. The Goshen Farmer’s Market features locally grown and fashioned products to promote and educate the community about agricultural, environmental and economic sustainability.
