Pitts introduces GT55 Contender, designed to 'revolutionize' heavy haul

Oct. 2, 2023
The most significant change is the low-profile cantilever neck design, which maximizes ride height capabilities and enhances performance, offering up to 24 inches of additional overhead clearance above the neck versus previous designs

Pitts Heavy Haul has introduced the next generation of lowboy trailers, the all-new GT55 Contender. This addition to Pitts’ Contender series represents the “pinnacle of performance and versatility” in trailer technology, the manufacturer suggests.

“Pitts has been a logging industry leader for decades, and today we are bringing that same focus to our Heavy Haul division, emphasizing quality, performance, and value,” explained Pitts Trailers President JP Pierson. “The new GT55 includes all the benefits of our Contender series detach trailer and adds premium features to the neck, deck, and bogie designs.”

The most significant change is the low-profile cantilever neck design, which maximizes ride height capabilities and enhances performance, offering up to 24 inches of additional overhead clearance above the neck versus previous designs. The five-position ride height system has been redesigned to allow additional ride height options without interfering with available deck lengths, so drivers can adapt to every challenge with confidence.

The neck locks and secures effortlessly with Pitts’ advanced air locking pin system. The proven self-aligning setup and automatic safety locking feature eliminate the hassle of a manual locking mechanism, according to the company. The GT55 Contender also boasts a faster operating cylinder design, pairing speed and precision to make loading and unloading smoother and more efficient.

“With the GT55, we paid special attention to both safety and convenience,” Pierson said. “Our goal is to make hauling as easy and safe as possible, so we thought through every aspect of loading, hauling and unloading.”

The new heavy duty integrated outrigger takes strength and durability to the next level, conveniently sliding inside the frame for easy access and storage. Additional anchors offer convenient tie-down options for equipment during transport, and removable wheel wells provide flexibility to handle different types of cargo. The new bolt-on design also allows the operator to add or remove wheel wells quickly and conveniently.

“Since the first Pitts RGN rolled off the production line in 1980, we have listened to our customers, continually modifying and upgrading our products to meet their ever-changing requirements,” Pierson said. “The GT55 is no exception.”
