Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 10% in July

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 10% in July over the same period a year ago and down 4% from the previous month.

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 10% in July over the same period a year ago and down 4% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 51,279 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from July 2012 (46,718) and down from June 2013 (53,351).

Compared with July 2012, Class 8 trucks were down 7% (15,340, compared to 16421). Class 7 sales were 4,229, up 9% from the 4,101.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 342,573 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 5% from 326,058 in 2012. Class 8 sales have been 101,180, a 13% decrease from the same period last year (115,667). Class 7 sales have been down 4% (26,864, compared to 28,076).

Total sales of all classes have been up 5%, from 4,289,059 to 4,765,114.

Every class has been up, except for Class 7 and 8. The biggest increase has been in Class 6 (26%).
