The American Welding Society has released AWS A5.24/A5.24M:2005, Specification for Zirconium and Zirconium-Alloy Welding Electrodes and Rods. It's the first revision of the group's zirconium welding electrodes document in 15 years, and the first to use both United States Customary Units and the International System of Units.

This specification prescribes requirements for the classification — based on chemical composition — of zirconium and zirconium-alloy electrodes and rods for gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, and plasma arc welding. The document also contains requirements for testing procedures, manufacture, sizes, lengths, and packaging.

AWS published the initial A5.24 document in 1976; its most recent previous revision was in 1990. The new 2005 version has 24 pages and contains one figure and four tables. Its price is $36 for AWS members and $48 for non-members.
