Retail truck sales up in April

Retail truck sales edged up 3.6% in April, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Larger trucks posted bigger gains. While light-duty trucks were up slightly in April, commercial posted strong gains. Class 6 trucks (gross vehicle weight ratings of 19,501-26,000 pounds) led the way with a 39% gain for the month. Class 8 trucks (gross vehicle weight ratings above 33,000 pounds) also were exceptionally strong—up 33% when compared with April 2003.
