Retail truck sales up 3.4%

Franchised dealers of United States truck manufacturers sold 785,258 units in October -- a 3.4% increase over the same month a year ago, when 759,719 were sold --according to data published by Ward's Communications.

The biggest increases were seen in Class 8 (38.7%) and Class 3 (28.2%). Every class showed a gain, with the smallest coming in Class 2 (1.8%).

Year-to-date sales were up 5.2%, with 8,147,743, compared to 7,747,045, with Class 6 (up 42.6%) and Class 8 (up 42.6%) showing the biggest gains.
