Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded a contract by General Motors Corporation to develop and produce natural gas fuel systems for GM's model year 2005 full-size pickup trucks. This follow-on development and production contract could represent potential revenues between $8 and $10 million over the model year period beginning in September 2004.Quantum began developing advanced fuel systems for General Motors' alternative fuel vehicle in the early 90s. This contract award extends Quantum's existing programs on GM's full-size pick-up truck. Quantum will provide the engineering effort to accommodate the model year changes for the fuel system and will then produce the new systems into the base vehicle."The alternative fuel segment continues to be a stable force in our business model, providing revenue streams and technical experience that we are leveraging into the emerging hydrogen and fuel cell markets," said Alan Niedzwiecki, President & CEO. "We are pleased to continue this business with General Motors as it allows us to strengthen our capabilities as a Tier 1 supplier, which will be essential for us as the fuel cell market moves into the commercialization phase."
