Oshkosh Receives $11.2 Million Order

Oshkosh Truck Corporation a manufacturer of specialty trucks and truck bodies, was awarded a $11.2 million contract for 22 Striker(TM) airport rescue and fire fighting (ARFF)vehicles.

The trucks were purchased by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as part of a complete ARFF fleet replacement and upgrade program. They will be used at all three of the Port Authority's major airports - John F. Kennedy International, Newark International, and LaGuardia.

The Port Authority is taking delivery of 14 units with 3,000-gallon water capacity and eight with 1,500-gallon water capacity. The 14 Striker 3000 models are equipped with ample 3,000-gallon water tanks. Seven of the units feature Snozzle high-reach extendable turrets, while the others are equipped with 1,000-gallon-per-minute roof turrets. All 14 units feature Rhino high-volume bumper turrets that can discharge 1200 gallons per minute. The Snozzle and Rhino products are manufactured by Crash Rescue Equipment Services of Dallas, Texas.

The Port Authority's eight Striker 1500 models are considered rapid intervention vehicles and carry 1500 gallons of water. These are equipped with high volume bumper turrets that can discharge 750 gallons per minute. They will be used primarily for initial emergency response.

All of the units feature Oshkosh's TAK-4 independent suspension, all-wheel drive, driver enhanced vision systems, and a monitoring and data acquisition system that monitors vehicle operating parameters. The power train includes a Twin Disc TD61-1180 electronic, automatic transmission and a 650-horsepower Caterpillar diesel engine.
