John P. Messer, president of Messer Truck Equipment (Westbrook ME) and president of the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) in 1992-1993, died unexpectedly May 25, 2008, as the result of a cardiac event during a SCUBA certification dive. In 1971, he joined the family business to become the third generation in Messer Truck Equipment. He was named president in 1985, and during his tenure with the company he helped to grow the business into one of the largest and most respected truck equipment distributorships in northern New England. Messer is survived by his wife, Terri; their three children, Kevin, Jeffrey, and Stephanie; two grandchildren; and his father, John F. Messer. Those wishing to make contributions in his memory can donate to The Boy Scout Pine Tree Council, 131 Johnson Rd., Portland ME 04102; or The Ronald McDonald House, 250 Brackett St., Portland ME 04102.
