Sept. 28, 2011
Legislation approved by the State of New York will require trucks, tractors, and tractor-trailer combinations to have convex mirrors.

Legislation approved by the State of New York will require trucks, tractors, and tractor-trailer combinations to have convex mirrors.

The legislation, which takes effect January 14,2012, applies to conventional cab trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,000 pounds or more. The mirror must be able to enable the drive to see an object that is three feet above the road when that object is one foot in front of the middle of the front of the truck.

Trucks are subject to the new regulation when they operate in a city that has a population of at least one million people and on roads other than controlled-access highways.
