European committee ponders fireproof curtains

The Comité Européen de Normalisation (CEN), or European standards committee, has asked the British Standards Institution (BSI) to collect its commercial vehicle body builder views regarding CEN’s plans for a new European standard that includes the fire resistance of truck and trailer curtain sides, according to CV Transport News Brief.

The draft, prEN 12641-2 sets minimum standards which some members clearly think are overly ambitious.

“We need to know what the industry thinks on this one, as it could increase costs and seems set to tackle a problem which is fairly rare,” said a Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) spokesman.
