For the eighth straight week, the average national price for a gallon of diesel fell -- this time by 4 cents, to $2.506, for the week ending Oct. 8, according to the Energy Information Administration

All regions experienced a price drop, with the biggest in the Rockies at 9.5 cents to $2.584. The smallest came in the Midwest -- 1.9 cents to $2.448. The Gulf Coast was the least expensive ($2.446 after a 4.4-cent drop). The most expensive region remained California -- $2.751, despite an 8.4-cent drop.
