DHL Worldwide Express is renewing its fleet with 550 Krone trailers. The international leasing company TIP (Transport International Pool), is the leaser and owner of the new vehicles.

“We are delighted to have received the contract,” said Dr Jürgen Föhrenbach, spokesperson for the Krone management team. “We had previously delivered 200 Profi Liners to DHL in March.” The new contract was for an additional 350 trailers from the Profi Liner and Mega Liner ranges.

Bob Fast, managing director of TIP/Rail Europe, said “DHL was looking to replace its existing fleet, we purchased it and set-up a replacement program for new equipment — a win-win for both. Transactions such as these recognize clear confirmation of the trend toward long-term leasing as a form of acquisition.”

DHL connects 120,000 destinations in more than 220 nations. Deutsche Post World Net is the majority shareholder in DHL International; further shareholders are the German Lufthansa and Japan Airlines.

The order was supplied at a rate of 60 vehicle units a day leaving the Krone plant in Werlte, Germany. With 450 employees, the vehicle plant generated a revenue of 331.9 million euro in 2003; revenue for the entire Krone Group was 531.6 million euro. For the current financial year, Krone anticipates record revenue of around 600 million euro, of which 400 million euro will come from the Commercial Vehicle division in Werlte.
