The average price for a gallon of diesel nationally increased five cents to $2.84, according to the Energy Information Administration.

The price went up in every region, with the Rocky Mountain area experiencing the largest -- 6.7 cents to $2.951. With a 3.9-cent increase, California remained the most expensive at $2.978.

The smallest increase came in the Central Atlantic region -- 3.2 cents to $2.852. The Lower Atlantic region had the cheapest price at $2.79 despite a 5.7-cent increase.
